JONESBORO — After defending their 5A-West District title last week, the Harrison Goblins were unable to defend their Class 5A State title on Wednesday.

The home team of Valley View High School unseated the Goblins as Class 5A State Champions with a team score of 306.

Little Rock Christian finished second with a 319 while the Goblins posted a 357 for seventh place.

Senior Logan Greer shot a round of 71, good for second place in the individual scoring.

Jackson Marseilles added a 78, Nick Schriner a 97 and Seth Sweatman a 111.

Greer and Marseilles each earned All-State honors for their play on Wednesday.

“Logan played awesome. He had a really, really good round,” said Harrison head coach Don Price. “Every time he had a bad hole, he would come back with a birdie. He just played an awesome round. I’m proud of him for hanging in there. He’s been on the cusp of doing something great and it was good to see him play this well. It’s outstanding for him. Some college coaches were there at the tournament and I think they’ve finally found him.”

Greer’s runner-up finish qualified him to play in the overall championship next Thursday at Pleasant Valley in Little Rock.

“I’m glad he will get to compete in the overall championship,” said Price. “I think he can go down there and do really well.”

Marseilles earned All-State honors for the fourth time. He has made All-District and All-State in each of his four years on the Goblin varsity team.

“Jackson wanted to do better, and he is capable of doing better,” Price started on his most experienced player. “He just got off to a rough start. He shot -1 on the last seven holes to shoot his 78. It was a strong finish for him.

“He’s had a great career,” Price continued. “We’re obviously going to miss both Jackson and Logan. My hat is off to both of them. Not just in how they played, but in how they lead the other guys. Their leadership has been incredible. I’m very appreciative of that.”

Price also spoke of the experience the state tournament brought to his young golfers, Schriner and Sweatman.

“Just the experience of being there. Being in the district tournament and winning.

Being at state and seeing what it’s all about. They’ve been there now,” Price stated. “If they want to get to the level Jackson and Logan are at, they’re going to have to work at it. I know they’re both willing to put in the work. They will be the leaders of the team now.”
