Here’s hoping the Goblins win tonight, for more than the obvious reasons.

The once-again undefeated Harrison Goblins take on Vilonia tonight, at home, and we need a win in a big way.

Harrison was 4-1 overall with a 1-1 conference record just 48 hours ago, with their lone loss coming at Morrilton.

Then, the unexpected news came that Morrilton had to forfeit their wins because of an ineligible player, and boom, Harrison is undefeated again.

So, tonight’s matchup with Vilonia is important. It keeps the Goblins in contention to host a playoff football game at F.S. Garrison Stadium for the first time since the stadium was built.

However, maybe there’s more to it than that.

While the Goblins were 4-1 with a 1-1 conference record, another team had the exact same record... the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Harrison won in weeks 1, 2 and 3.

Arkansas won in weeks 1, 2 and 3.

The Goblins lost in week 4.

The Razorbacks lost in week 4.

Harrison won in week 5.

Arkansas won in week 5.

There’s a pattern going on here. If news breaks today that A&M has to forfeit their victories this season, we’ll know something is up.

Either way, every week the Goblins have won on Friday night, the Hogs have won on Saturday.

Every week the Goblins lost on Friday night, the Hogs lost on Saturday.

You see where I’m going.

The Hogs play No. 1 Alabama on Saturday. This weekend of football is much bigger than Harrison.

So, the entire state of Arkansas is in desperate need of a Harrison Goblin victory tonight over Vilonia. A Goblin victory all but guarantees a Razorback victory over Alabama.

I want the Goblins to win, I do. If you haven’t picked up over the years, I’m a passionate Goblin supporter.

However, the Hogs are a step higher on the totem pole when it comes to my fandom.

I want Harrison to beat Vilonia, but I want the Hogs to beat Bama just a tad bit more. Maybe a lot more, actually.

Arkansas finally beating Alabama, and while they’re ranked No. 1, would be a huge achievement for the program. Aside from the positive affects it would have on this current season we’re in, it could vault the program into new heights where we start competing for national titles again.

Recruiting would go to another level.

Needless to say, this game against Bama is important.

So, to all of you Razorback fans that desperately want a victory over Saban and the Crimson Tide, you should be cheering your guts out tonight that the Goblins beat Vilonia.

Five weeks into this season, the story goes that if the Goblins win, the Hogs win.
We need two wins this weekend.

I’ve got an off-topic, non-sports thought to touch on.

On Monday, the body of Jeremy Scroggins was found after he’d been missing since June.

Jeremy grew up maybe 75 yards from my house. Greg, Alice, Ashley and Jeremy were neighbors of mine as far back as I can remember.

We were fortunate to live in a great neighborhood with a lot of great families.
It’s hard to wrap your mind around how difficult the past few months have been for one of those families.

As we watch our football teams compete over the weekend, keep in mind there’s a family here in Harrison that can use our support a lot more than any football team ever will.

I’ll definitely be praying for you, Greg, Alice and Ashley, that the God of Creation will provide some peace to you and use even the most difficult events in life to bring glory to His name.
