The Harrison Goblin apparently got hold of some Visine, because he got the red out.
Just in time for the opening of the new gymnasium at Harrison High School comes a new and improved mascot. The iconic Goblin will present a cleaner, more symmetrical visage that will include blue eyes replacing the long-time red eyes.
The new mascot was unveiled at the May 17 meeting of the Harrison Board of Education.
High School athletic director Chris Pratt chaired a committee that looked into possibly modernizing the goblin. Pratt said the new mascot looks very similar to the old one. In fact, he went on to say, many people might not even notice the differences right away.
The yellow face and red eyes of the old mascot are being replaced by a face of Vegas gold to go along with the royal blue eyes. The eye color was a special mix, Pratt said. In addition, highlights have been added to the hair.
His hairless pate reflecting the light, board member Jon Burnside had a question regarding the goblin’s hair.
“How long did you consider it to be bald?” Burnside asked, as laughter erupted.
The blue-eyed goblin is scheduled to make his new gymnasium debut Feb. 17, 2017. That completion date was given in his facilities update by Jason Petree, field superintendent for Nabholz Construction. On that date also the new fine arts auditorium is expected to be ready for occupancy.
In what he termed a “kind of milestone,” Petree said the floor of the gym was poured last week. The roof of the gym was completed, and the roof of the auditorium will be completed soon.
Work also continues on the classrooms for the middle school, Petree went on to explain, and with the ending of the school year, the temporary partition between the addition and the main part of the school will be taken down.
In other Goblin-related matters, the board awarded three-year broadcast rights of Goblin sports to KCWD 96.1 FM.
Jones Physical Therapy was awarded the contract to provide athletic trainer services for Goblin sports teams. The contract was for five years.
