BERRYVILLE VS. HARRISON - CLASS 4A STATE TOURNAMENT

MAGNOLIA — Coming into the Class 4A State Basketball Tournament semifinal game on Saturday, the Harrison Lady Goblins held a 2-1 game lead over the Berryville Lady Bobcats. When Saturday night was over, Berryville had evened the series at two each. More importantly, the Lady Bobcats earned a trip to finals of the state tournament that will be played Thursday at 5:45 p.m. Berryville defeated Harrison, 54-38. advertisement Berryville made a living at the free throw line in the fourth period to secure the win. In the last 6 minutes of the game, the Lady Bobcats hit 13-of-16 free throw attempts to secure the win over Harrison. Harrison entered the second half with a 26-22 lead. However, the Lady Goblins needed almost 5 minutes to score in the third period. During that time the Lady Bobcats took the lead. Kelcee Hopper started the third with a three-point play. Makayla Hussey added a freebie to tie the game at 26. Hopper gave the Lady Bobcats the lead at 27-26 after she was fouled on Berryville's third shot of the possession. With 4:07 left in the frame, Hannah Morrell gave Berryville a 29-28 lead. Caroline Cecil ended the 7-0 run with two free throws. Hopper then scored for Berryville after collecting an offensive putback. Morrell then scored for the Lady Bobcats to take a 33-28 lead. Brylie Parker of Harrison then hit a free throw to cut the lead to four points. Lexy Anderson then drained a trey for Berryville to give a 36-29 lead to the Lady Bobcats. Sydney Shrum ended the scoring in the third period for Harrison. It was the first field goal for Harrison in the frame. Berryville led 36-31. Opening the final frame, Baylea Smith drained a trey for Berryville. Brynn Oleson scored on a reverse layup to keep Harrison within two possessions. With the score sitting at 39-33, Berryville started the free throw barrage. At the 4:52 mark, Berryville held its first double-digit lead of the night at 43-33 after Morrell hit both ends of two trips to the free throw line. Parker then hit a free throw and Marion Groberg added two to pull Harrison within, 43-36, with just over 4 minutes left in the game. Anderson had the only field goal of Berryville's last 15 points. Harrison was unable to get a shot to fall and Berryville continued to add points at the charity stripe. The junior guard Anderson added one and Morrell put in three. Berryville led 49-36 when Parker hit her last shot as a Lady Goblin. Morrell hit four more free throws and Smith rounded out the scoring with the last charity toss. The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first quarter. Cecil pulled Harrison within, 10-8, after hitting her second trey of the game. Berryville led 15-12 after one period. Parker ended the first period scoring with a bucket for Harrison, but that was the first two points of an 8-0 run. Groberg then started the second with two free throws and then added a bucket after collecting an offensive rebound. The last two points of the run was scored by Kenzie Parker. Smith hit a trey for Berryville to tie the contest, but that was answered by a trey from Brylie Parker at the 4:01 mark. Hopper hit two free throws for Berryville before Groberg hit a mid-range jumper and then Kenzie Parker completed a three-point play to give Harrison a 26-20 lead. Morrell ended the first half with a basket to put the score at 26-22. Berryville was led in scoring by Morrell with 27 points. Smith added 13, Hopper eight and Anderson six. Leading Harrison in scoring was Groberg and Cecil with 10 points each. Brylie Parker added nine, Kenzie Parker five and Shrum and Oleson two each. With the win, Berryville moves to 31-4 on the season. Harrison closes the season at 26-6.
