CLASS 4A NORTH SENIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

MORRILTON — It was a successful trip for the Harrison Lady Goblins in their first trip to a regional tournament. On Saturday night, the Lady Goblins faced Berryville in the Class 4A North Region Tournament being held in Morrilton's Devil Dog Arena. When the night was over, it was a 39-32 win for Harrison. With the win, the Lady Goblins move on to the Class 4A State Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 seed. Berryville will be the second seed from the conference. Both teams are on same side of the bracket. advertisement The Class 4A tournament has only 12 teams in it so each of the three regional winners and a second place squad from one region get first-round byes. Harrison has received a bye and will play its first game in the quarterfinals on Friday. Harrison's opponent will be the winner of the Highland and DeQueen contest that will be held on Thursday. Tip for this game will be at 4 p.m. at Magnolia High School. Berryville will play on Thursday against Warren. This game starts at 1 p.m. On Saturday, Harrison hit seven free throws in the final 2:06 of the game to seal a victory over Berryville. Harrison started the fourth period with a 28-25 lead. Hannah Morrell went to work on the inside for the Lady Bobcats and scored a bucket. That was answered on Harrison's next possession with a bucket by Sydney Shrum. Kelcee Hopper put in a deuce for Berryville just 15 seconds later to make it a three-point affair. The Lady Goblins missed their next field goal attempt, but Harrison's Kenzie Parker broke from outside the arc and picked up the offensive rebound and hit an uncontested layup. Morrell then knocked down a free throw with 5:19 left to pull Berryville back within four points. Harrison the began to melt the clock. The Lady Goblins held the ball before turning it over 45 seconds into the stall. Hopper then scored with 3:48 left to make it a 32-30 contest. Neither team could put points on the board over the next 1:42 of the game until Brylie Parker was sent to the free throw line. She completed both ends of the two shot foul. Almost a minute later Shrum hit a charity toss to push the Lady Goblins ahead 35-30. Lexy Anderson hit a bucket for Berryville to make it a one-possession contest with 35.1 seconds left in the game at 35-32. Brylie Parker connected on 4-of-4 free throw attempts to set the final score. Harrison started with a 6-0 lead on two 3-pointers by Caroline Cecil. Berryville tied the contest as Hopper scored the first four Berryville points and Morrell tied the contest on a pass from Hopper. With 3.2 seconds left, Cecil put Harrison ahead, 8-6. Morrell tied the contest to start the second frame, but Harrison scored the next eight points. Brylie Parker hit a free throw and a bucket. Cecil hit another trey and Brylie Parker stole a pass and hit a layup. The 8-0 run was ended by Morrell with a basket. Jordan Estepp then scored for Berryville to make it a 16-12 game. Cecil hit Harrison's last point of the first half and Estepp had two free throws for the Lady Bobcats to pull within, 17-14, at halftime. Shrum started the second half with a free throw for Harrison. Hopper then scored after taking a pass from Morrell. That was as close as Berryville could get to Harrison in the third period. Leading Harrison in scoring was Brylie Parker with 15 points. Cecil added 12, Shrum, Kenzie Parker and Marion Groberg four each. All but two of Berryville's points came in the paint. Morrell led the team with 14, Hopper had 12, Estepp four and Anderson two. Semifinals Harrison 68, Farmington 55 If a basketball fan enjoyed free throws, then the Harrison and Farmington game was the place to be in the semifinals. Harrison defeated Farmington, 68-55. A total of 60 free throws were shot in the contest with Farmington hitting 24-of-31 and Harrison nailing 24-of-31. The Lady Goblins led at halftime, 23-18, Leading Harrison in scoring was Brylie Parker with 23 points. Groberg and Cecil added 13 each, Shrum 12, Kenzie Parker four and Makayla Campbell three.
