HARRISON GOBLINS VS. HUNTSVILLE BASKETBALL

It took all 32 minutes of regulation plus three overtime periods of basketball action to determine a winner Friday night at Goblin Arena as the Harrison Golden Goblins faced-off against conference foe Huntsville Eagles. Harrison ended the game leaving everything they had on the court but falling short on the scoreboard, 75-70. After a slow first quarter, Harrison found themselves down to Huntsville 20-11. advertisement At 2:56 left in the second period the Goblins would catch fire and go on a 10-2 run entering the lockerroom. Jacob Shrum started the run with a 3-pointer followed by another trey from Carson Journagan. Shrum added two free throws and Ben Elliott a field goal to finish the run. Harrison outscored Huntsville in the frame 14-9 cutting into Huntsville’s lead 29-25 at the half. The third was full of momentum shifts and runs. Harrison started with an 8-0 run by back-to-back three pointers from Elliott and Shrum as well as another bucket from Elliott. This gave Harrison the lead at 33-29. The next 10 points came from the visiting team. At 2:51 left in the quarter Harrison coach David Stahler called a timeout to recharge his team. The move worked as the Goblins would regain momentum starting with Dustin Gundry finding Jayce Martin for two points in the lane. Shrum then took over by scoring the final eight points of the quarter with a runner off the glass and two 3-pointers. Harrison had the lead after three periods, 43-39. The Goblins cooled off a bit in the fourth only scoring eight points. Martin had another inside score along with two 3-pointers from Gundry. At the end of regulation the score was knotted up 51-51. In the first overtime Journagan and Champ Saylors each had a field goal, along with Elliott making a free throw. The second overtime saw Martin and Elliott score a basket, but the big shot was Shrum’s 3-pointer to tie it up with 3 seconds left. In the third overtime, the teams traded 3-pointers and each a free throw. Then with 20 seconds left the Eagles got up by four. Shrum cut into the lead with an and-one play bringing the score to 71-70 with 16 seconds on the clock. That was as close as Harrison could get. Shrum led Harrison with 22 points, followed by Elliott with 19, Gundry 11, Martin nine, Journagan five, Ethan Edwards and Saylors 2 each. Harrison will be back in action on Tuesday for Senior Night. The team will host Shiloh Christian.
