HARRISON BASKETBALL VS. PROVIDENCE ACADEMY

Goblin Arena resumed regular-season basketball action on Thursday when the Patriots of Providence Academy rolled into Harrison. Both visiting teams were handed losses at the end of the night. The Goblins served their opponent a narrow defeat, 52-50. Harrison’s Lady Goblins led the entire game to post a 53-43 victory. Senior Boys advertisement Harrison’s 12-of-16 shooting from the free throw line in the fourth quarter earned them a 52-50 victory over the Patriots. The Goblins entered the fourth quarter trailing by a 39-38 score. Providence opened the final frame with a score to take a three-point lead. Ben Elliott responded by driving the lane and was fouled. He sank both free throws. The Patriots then scored on back-to-back possessions to take a five-point lead with just over 6 minutes remaining. Harrison then rallied for a 10-0 run to take a five-point lead of its own. The run began with Elliott sinking another pair of freebies. Carson Journagan swiped away a steal on the next possession that led to a driving basket from Elliott. Providence was unable to get any momentum due to the Goblin defense and Harrison continued to find itself at the free throw line. Champ Saylors sank a pair of charity tosses before Journagan and Elliott each shot 1-of-2 from the line. Dustin Gundry grabbed a defensive rebound that led to Jacob Shrum getting fouled and sinking a pair of shots from the line. Providence got on the board with a pair of free throws with 29.7 seconds remaining to narrow the gap, 50-47. Journagan then hit the back end of a double bonus free throw appearance to put the Goblins ahead by four. Providence then attacked the basket for a score and one to make it a one-point game with 8.1 seconds remaining. Harrison was able to beat the press and get the ball up the court before Gundry was fouled with 2.8 seconds on the clock. Gundry hit the back end of the shots to go ahead by two. Providence fumbled the inbound pass and was unable to get off a shot before the clock expired to give Harrison the win. The Goblins led, 17-11, after the first period with Elliott scoring six points attacking the basket and Shrum adding a trey and a field goal. Providence fought back to trail by one point at halftime, 29-28. Elliott opened the third period for Harrison with a jumper from the free throw line and Journagan scored the final seven points of the third period for the Goblins. Elliott scored 19 points to lead the Goblins to victory. Journagan finished with 15 points and Shrum contributed 10 points. Gundry and Saylors added four points each. Senior Girls The Harrison Lady Goblins came out of the gates shooting and it paid off in a 53-43 win over the Lady Patriots. Brylie Parker began the game with a triple from the left wing followed by another long bomb from teammate Caroline Cecil. Kenzie Parker then scored on an offensive putback to put the Lady Goblins ahead, 8-0. The Lady Patriots scored a 3-pointer on the next possession but it proved to be their only field goal of the first quarter. Cecil then scored on a jump shot followed by a pair of freebies from Kenzie Parker to put Harrison ahead by a 12-4 edge at the first break. Sydney Shrum led the Lady Goblin scoring in the second period with five points while Brynn Oleson and Marion Groberg each added four points. Providence scored 16 points in the second quarter to get within, 26-20, before halftime. Cecil opened the second half with a trey from the top of the key and Brylie Parker followed with a short jump shot on the ensuing possession. With 3:24 left in the third period, Sydney Shrum began and finished a give-and-go play with Cecil to put Harrison ahead, 35-27. The Lady Goblins finished the third quarter on a 5-0 run beginning with a pass from Brylie Parker to Sydney Shrum in transition for a layup capped off by a deep 3-pointer from the left wing by Brylie Parker to put Harrison ahead by a 41-29 margin. Groberg scored six points in the final quarter along with four from Brylie Parker and a deuce from Kenzie Parker to seal the win for the Lady Goblins. Brylie Parker finished with 12 points to lead the Harrison attack. Sydney Shrum added 11 points, Groberg 10, Cecil eight, Kenzie Parker seven and Oleson five.
