Being impressive on both sides of the ball can win some ballgames. Harrison was just that on Friday night when they rolled past 5A-West conference opponent Clarksville, 42-7. With the win, the Goblins move to 5-0 on the season. The team is tied atop the 5A-West race with Alma at 2-0 Three different Goblins threw for four touchdowns on the night alongside a pair of rushing touchdowns. Harrison’s Rilee Jones was targeted three times in the ballgame and caught all three for touchdowns. Running back Gabe Huskey took a direct snap and found teammate Colin Ballard for another scoring possession. “We were going to open up throwing the ball,” Goblin coach Joel Wells noted. “We wanted to get several people involved in our offense and we did that.” Sophomore Cole Keylon’s first throw of the game produced a score for Jones’ third touchdown reception. Harrison’s defense has been a big key to the success of the Goblins this year. Clarksville only attempted two passes the entire game. The first attempt was nearly picked off by junior Colton Shaver. After that, the Panthers relied on the run game that consisted of a lot of short runs except one that went to the end zone. “We have played good defense so far this year,” said Wells. “They gave up a TD on a hidden ball trick play, other than that we did a nice job on that side of the ball.” The Arkansas Good Sportsmanship rule kept the clock rolling the entire second half and gave a lot of players some playing time. “We wanted to get our younger guys in and keep the intensity up,” noted the coach about the message he gave his players at halftime. The halftime score was the same as the final score but Clarksville made a push in the closing minutes. Harrison’s defense was facing first-and-goal at the 2-yard line, but forced a turnover on downs to close out the game. “The goal line stand was great. It was our jayvee guys who showed some pride,” said Wells. As good as Harrison has been playing, the coach knows that they must keep working. Wells commented on what they will address moving forward, “We must continue to improve in all areas. If we want to win a conference title we must get better. We have some tough games coming up on the road that will challenge us. “We are hungry to be successful. We have not come close to our goals yet and our players know it.” Ben Johnson led the passing game completing 7-of-8 for 154 yards and three touchdowns. Huskey threw once for 40 yards and a touchdown. Keylon was 2-of-3 for 57 yards and a touchdown. Huskey rushed for 155 yards on nine carries and two scores. Ballard had four carries for 32 yards; Bryant Ulrich, two totes, 8 yards; Jordin Welsh, three carries, 6 yards; Hunter Holtby, one carry, 5 yards; Cole Keylon, two carries, -1 yard; and Julius Scott, one rush, 0 yards. The air attack was led by Jones with three catches totaling 101 yards and three touchdowns. Brooks Both reeled in one catch netting 44 yards; Ballard’s lone catch totaled 41 yards and a touchdown; Kaden Jones, one catch, 10 yards; Holtby, one catch, 9 yards; and Ulrich, one catch, 4 yards. Max Payne put all six of Harrison’s extra point attempts through the uprights. The Goblins will host Vilonia at F.S. Garrison Stadium on Friday.
