HARRISON, TWO OTHER 5A-WEST TEAMS OFF

With the introduction of Week 0 to the Arkansas high school football season, three 5A-West teams have taken advantage of the extra time. Clarksville, Morrilton and Harrison have completed the non-conference portion of the football season while Alma, Farmington, Greenbrier, Huntsville and Vilonia all play Friday in Week 3. The purpose of Week 0 was to allow teams to play out-of-state competition. Some neighboring states start the high school season before Arkansas which limited the playing dates between the states. Harrison completed its non-conference season with a perfect 3-0 record. The Goblins have scored 143 points in those games. That ties the most points scored by a Harrison team in the last decade of play. The output tied the 2013 Goblins, however, Harrison was 1-2 in those games. Giving up only 28 points through the non-conference run ties the 2008 Goblins for the least amount of points scored. Harrison was also 3-0 after the good defensive effort that season. Morrilton and Clarksville completed the non-conference season with 1-2 records. Clarksville defeated Paris, 41-0, in Week 1. The team lost to Booneville, 30-0 in Week 0 and Ozark, 42-13 last week. Morriton was beaten by Searcy in its opener, 46-26. Then in Week 1, the team fell to Russellville, 28-23. The Devil Dogs defeated J.A. Fair, 47-12, in Week 2. Greenbrier, Huntsville and Farmington have had successful 2-0 starts. The Cardinals downed Prairie Grove, 33-30 and Gravette, 40-2. Farmington plays at Pea Ridge on Friday night. Greenbrier defeated Beebe, 29-14, in Week 0. After being off Week 1, the Panthers spanked Heber Springs, 38-9, in Week 2. The squad hosts Little Rock Christian on Friday. Huntsville has made a run through the old 4A-1, which they were apart of until this season when the football team was moved to Class 5A. The Eagles defeated Gentry, 35-6, and then pulled out a 21-14 win over Berryville last week. Huntsville hosts Elkins in Week 3. The other two 5A-West teams have yet to find a win this season. Alma has dropped to games in Class 7A competition. Van Buren defeated the Airedales, 48-33. Springdale also defeated Alma, 37-7. Russellville is on the agenda for the Airedales in Week 3. Vilonia has stayed in Class 5A for competition. The Eagles fell to Little Rock Christian, 43-21. Last year’s 5A-West member Maumelle defeated Vilonia, 62-22. Beebe is on the schedule for Friday night.
