HHS SOCCER SPLITS AT MAUMELLE

MAUMELLE — Playing Maumelle in soccer has added value to the contest. With the 6A/5A-1 scheduling, Harrison’s soccer teams play Maumelle only once during the season. That game counts as two games. In the 5A-West District Soccer Tournament, the league is divided into two groups. Harrison, Maumelle and Clarksville make up the west side of the league and Vilonia, Morrilton and Greenbrier account for the east side of the league. Both divisions of the 5A-West play to earn a first, second and third place standing. Those standings are used for seeding in the district tournament. Fortunately, for the Lady Goblins, the squad defeated Maumelle to earn two wins. Unfortunately for the Goblins, the team fell, 1-0, giving Maumelle two wins. “That win gives us the No. 1 seed from the west side of the bracket for districts,” said Harrison coach Chris Pratt. “We get a bye to the semifinals and we have qualified for state.” The Lady Goblins will play the winner of the game between the second place team from the east and the third place team from the west. That game will be played in Greenbrier on May 1. “Maumelle clinches the No. 1 seed,” said Pratt. “Our game versus Clarksville on April 20 will help determine the second and third seeds.” Harrison defeated Clarksville, 2-0, in an early meeting at F.S. Garrison Stadium. “A win or an one goal loss puts us as the No. 2 seed,” stated the coach. “A two goal win for Clarksville will result in a coin toss and a Clarksville win by three or more goals give them the No. 1 seed.” Regardless of Harrison’s finish, the Goblins will have a match on April 30. A win in the first round game gets the Goblins into the state tournament. Senior Girls The Lady Goblins raised their record to 11-2-3 with a 2-0 win over Maumelle. Harrison jumped out to a 1-0 lead at halftime. Kenzie Parker accounted for the first half goal. In the second half, Grace Martin scored after taking a pass from Brylie Parker. MaKayla Campbell had a shut out in the goal. She stopped 11 shots on goal. Senior Boys The Harrison boys fell to 6-7-4 overall after falling to Maumelle, 1-0. Harrison was not productive on offense. However, the Goblins made things exciting in the final 10 minutes. “We had 10 shots on goal,” he said. “Most of those shots came in the last 10 minutes of the game.” Rilee Jones suffered the loss. He stopped seven of eight shots by the Hornets.
