BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS HARRISON OVER LAKESIDE

Harrison's late 20-0 run carried more weight than Lakeside's early 21-0 run in Friday's Class 5A first-round matchup at Austin Field. With the scored tied at 36, the Goblins got two rushing touchdowns from Noah Ditmanson and a third from Mason Martin in the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 56-36 win. After scoring the game-tying touchdown with less than two minutes to play in the third, the Rams were held without a point in the fourth, punting twice and tossing an interception on their three possessions. Harrison advances to play Pulaski Academy next week while Lakeside finishes 6-5 for the second year in a row. Trailing 28-21, Harrison scored 15 unanswered points to open the third quarter. Gabe Husky had touchdown runs of four and two yards as the Goblins took a 36-28 lead with 6:29 remaining in the third. After an interception on its first possession of the second half, Lakeside found its groove with the game on the line. Michael James capped a 65-yard drive with a one-yard plunge and Dupree Swanson tacked on the two-point conversion to knot the score at 36-36 entering the final frame. Lakeside marched 69 yards in 14 plays on the first possession of the game, Swanson with a two-yard touchdown for an early 7-0 lead. Recovering a Harrison fumble on the ensuing kickoff, the Rams extended their lead when Swanson broke loose for a 31-yard score just two plays later. Swanson's 40-yard touchdown scamper gave Lakeside a commanding 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, but the Goblins wouldn't go down without a fight. Gabe Husky's one-yard plunge capped a 17-play drive and pulled Harrison within 21-6 with 4:39 remaining in the second quarter. After an 85-yard touchdown pass from Lakeside's Taylor Gilham to Keelan Fleming, the Goblins scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes of the first half. Noah Ditmanson ran for a 10-yard score with 2:14 remaining and connected with Caleb Husky for an 18-yard score with just one second on the game clock as Harrison pulled within 28-21 at the half.
