HARRISON TAKES A PAIR AT GREENWOOD

GREENWOOD — For the third game in a row, the Harrison Lady Goblins and Goblins stepped up a classification in league play. For the third time in a row, both Harrison teams came away with victories. Friday night at Greenwood, the Harrison Lady Goblins came from behind on their way to posting a 53-51 win. The Goblins had no trouble with the Bulldogs as they cruised for a 72-43 mercy-rule win. Senior Girls The Harrison Lady Goblins didn’t give up as they scored the last seven points of the game to post a 53-51 win. With 1:50 left in the game, Greenwood took a 51-46 lead over Harrison. Harrison didn’t give up. Briley Due started the late run with two free throws. The Lady Goblins got some help from the Lady Bulldogs as they missed an one-and-one. The Lady Goblins worked the basketball and got to the free throw line as Due was fouled again. This time, Due connected on the first toss, but missed the second free throw. Brylie Parker collected an offensive rebound and then 10 seconds later buried a trey to give the Lady Goblins a 52-51 lead. Greenwood moved the basketball down the floor before the ball was batted out of bounds under the Lady Bulldog basket. Harrison’s Claire Doshier tipped the basketball on the inbounds pass that resulted in a jump ball with 3.6 seconds left in the contest. Harrison owned the possession arrow and got the basketball into Mckenzie Glenn. She was fouled with 1.2 seconds left. She hit the second of her free throws to set the final score. Harrison built a four-point lead in the first period before settling for a 17-16 score at the buzzer. The Lady Goblins then took control of the contest in the opening 2:23 of the second frame. Alicia Auman scored before Glenn drained a trey and then hit a two-point bucket. A Due basket at the 5:37 mark gave the Lady Goblins a 26-18 lead. Greenwood pulled back within two points, but Parker finished the second period scoring the last nine Harrison points as the Lady Goblins led, 35-27, at intermission. The third period was one that Harrison wanted to forget. Doshier scored all four of the Harrison points in the frame with the first of those points coming on a 3-point shot with 2:31 left in the quarter. Harrison led, 39-35, with one period left. Greenwood drew first blood in the fourth frame, but back-to-back baskets by Doshier and Due pushed the Harrison lead back to six points. After that, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 14-3 run with Harrison’s only points coming off of two free throws by Parker and one by Maddie Wyatt. Leading Harrison in scoring was Parker with 14 points. Due added 11, Doshier 10, Glenn nine, Auman six and Wyatt three. Senior Boys Harrison had a good shooting night as the Goblins whipped the Bulldogs of Greenwood, 72-43. The Goblins opened the game with a 14-2 run and then added a 13-0 run, grabbing a 27-6 lead after 8:43 of action. Tanner Curry opened the game with a basket that was followed by a Braeden Boren three points. Curry added another long shot to give the Goblins an early 8-0 lead. Greenwood got its first points of the game at the 4:43 mark, but Harrison kept rolling. Boren had back-to-back buckets and Trevor Atwell had a basket to make it 14-2. After scoring the next four points, Greenwood could only watch as the Goblins produced another run. Atwell started it was a basket and had seven points of the 13 that Harrison scored in a row. Jackson Marseilles added four and Curry another bucket. After the Bulldogs scored to make it a 27-8 game, Harrison pushed its lead to 35-8 as Marseilles and Nathan Jenkins had back-to-back baskets and Marseilles added a field goal. At the 5:21 mark of the second period, the Goblins led, 38-10, after a Marseilles basket. Greenwood scored the next 10 points of the game and had a 15-2 rally with Skyler Young getting Harrison’s lone score. A Boren basket at the buzzer set the halftime score at 42-25. Harrison moved ahead, 66-40, after three periods and a pair of Curry free throws with 7:13 left in the fourth period set the mercy rule in action. Leading Harrison in scoring was Marseilles with 26 points. Boren added 16, Atwell 10, Curry nine, Jenkins five and Young, Colton Youngblood and Carson Journigan two each.
